Swimming in Lake Josephine, Glacier NP

Shenandoah National Park

Yesterday we returned from an overnight trip to Shenandoah National Park where we became more familiar with each other, our tents, meal routines, and how the camping aspect of our July trip will go, complete with a hike to the upper Doyles River Falls. Steve Yoder lead us both as a group and individually in reflection on the trip to come and challenged us to think about our excitement and anxiety relating to the trip and also about how we've already seen God revealed to us.

Monday evening, we also heard from Linda Green, ranger at SNP and mother of Colin, an EMHS sophomore. She gave us a little bit of background on expectations of visitors to national parks and current issues facing the National Park Service.

Mrs. Green cited a 50% decrease in park visitation over the past 12 years at SNP along with similar trends nationwide and asked us how national parks can become more relevant to this generation of families. She also asked more generally about the underlying cultural shift which has taken us away from spending time in the natural environment - What has caused this shift, why is it bad, and what can be done to change it?

New Website

...and we're up! This is the new face of EMHSDiscovery.com, which will be our interface with our community in Harrisonburg, VA and around the country (and world?). Some areas are still under construction, so please bear with us, but feel free to browse the site and to add your thoughts, too!
