| A Maquiladora is a large, foreign
owned (typically US) company that establishes a production plant just
inside the Mexican border. In Nogales, Mexico, we toured the
Curtis Industries, Inc. production plant, with headquarters in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. Curtis Industries makes terminal block connectors,
radio frequency filters, and cables. Rosaria Roldan, a Curtis
materials manager, gave led us through the facility. The average
worker in this plant of 105 employees makes $10 a day, a good wage for
Mexican workers in Nogales. |
